The University of Scranton is a private Jesuit university established in 1888 as St. Thomas College. Founded by Scranton's first Bishop, the Most Rev. William O'Hara, the school officially became a university in 1938. Since 1942, the University of Scranton, PA has been operated by Jesuits.
